HEALTH CARE, THE CIA, AND NOTRE DAME

Hello Again.  I'm not sure if anyone reads my blog anymore, but I thought I'd post a few thoughts about recent events.

* President Obama speaking at Notre Dame's graduation ceremony  ;

Personally, I don't have a problem with this. I strongly support of freedom of speech as a natrual right for all citizens of the US and all people of the world.  But then, I don't attend Notre Dame. It's a matter for the school administration and it's students and alumni to determine who their guest speakers should be.  It seems that what bothers most of the people who are protesting his appearence there, is less the fact that he is going address the graduating students, but that he is being given an honorary law degree from the university, an institution of the Catholic Church whose teachings are diametrically opposed to Presiden't Obama's view on abortion. This I can certainly understand. President Obama clearly supports the most radical pro-choice policies of the left, and faithful Catholics strongly oppose abortion. It's one matter to have the President make an address to an assembly of students, it's quite another to honor him with a special degree from an institution whose teachings are to the opposite on such a dramatically important matter as abortion.  A reasonable compromise from the school's administration would seem to be to have the President speak, but do not give him the degree.  I have listened to some of the student protesters who said they would be satisifed with that. President Obama, as a goodwill gesture, should perhaps choose to decline accepting the honorary degree in light of the obvious turmoil it is causing. It would be a dignified thing to do, and could be a catalyst in defusing the tensions over this. I hope he will do that, though I suspect he probably will accept the degree.  As a final comment on this controvesy, it's interesting to note how the news media is making this into an isolated controversy between people of the Catholic faith, and President Obama.  Millions of US citizens who are not of the Catholic faith, such as myself, also are strongly opposed to the cultre of abortion-on-demand , and oppose President Obama's stance on the matter.

* Speaker Of The house, Nancy Pelosi's argument with the "CIA";

This is ridiculous. I watched the news report in which she was asked if the CIA lied to her. When she uttered the word "yes" I thought she would immediately catch it as a mistaken thing to say, and rescind it in the same statement.  She didn't. She stood by it. I don't want to wast too much commentary on this, since it is such a dramatically rookie-type, neophyte knee-jerk silly thing for her to have alleged, that it pretty much speaks volumes for itself. You don't kick the dog that's guarding your house. Congress relies on the CIA for important intelligence briefings on the status of our country's security. Pelosi has forced the CIA to defend itself now, since by remaining silent they would in essence be submitting that they lied to her. Thus she has started a war, and put herself directly in the middle of it. Pelosi has had reign over the House Of Representatives similar to what a queen matriarch would have over her kingdom. She undoubtedly was feeling her power, feeling untouchable.  But as Elloit Ness proved to Al Capone, even the biggest and the badest can be knocked from their pedestal. Capone picked a fight with the wrong guy, and Pelosi has made a similar mistake.

* National Health Care, Obama-Style;

Well, what's to be said that hasn't been said already? President Obama recently demanded , and got a vague promise in return, that the nation's hospitals and drug companies  and insurance agencies reduce health care costs by $2 trillion over 10 years. That's hysterical coming from a man who just asked for a nearly 4 trillion dollar budget made of tax payer's money. A man who has already spent generations of tax money that hasn't even been collected yet.  What huge arrogance and hipocrisy on display. Of course, his biggest plan is for every man woman and child to have government run health insurance. Anyone who has had to deal with medicare or the VA for any major issue knows the nightmare he wants to inflict universally on the country.  No thanks.  Transparent prices of services and medications, consumers choosing their own policies as best fits their lifestyle rather than leaving it up to the government or an employer, and tort reform are some of the keys to reducing medical costs as well as allowing the individual in conjuction with the doctor to choose the medical services they require rather than some nameless faceless insurance or government bureaucrat.

IT'S AS BAD AS WE IMAGINED...

  As you recall, in recent months every time a spending program or bill was announced , the market dropped.  Every time Obama or anyone in the senate or Treasury announced plans to prop up industries with TARP, the market went south.  We need to very carefully examine what might be causing a fluctuation or rally, and realize also that consumer confidence is fickle to the point where the wrong words coming out of Obama's or Pelosi's or Reid's or Frank's mouths could send investors pulling back.  Also, companies have plans to deal with drops in market value and plans for boosting sales. Let's not rule out the private sector's ability to take the initiative to turn numbers around.  Recessions historically have rebounds and it would be unfortunate to assume that the governments attempts at socialistic take over of banks and over the top spending on things like universal health care and cap and trade and a litany of other things is what makes an economy sound and raises confidence.  It's rather the opposite.  It remains to be seen what becomes of any rally in the markets and what exactly is moving the consumer indexes. Government intervention tends to make investors frightened, and past moves by the administration and congress proves that wall street does not respond well to them. How, for example, does an investor know if or when AIG ( now AIU? ) is in the black because of sound business decisions or simply because of TARP funds covering thier debts? We may never, EVER, again have any reason to be confident in AIG.  Look at what has happened to the poor shmucks working there. They have been savaged by personal attacks from the President on down to Barney Frank and have had death threats launched at employees. They have had a horrific media blitz that increased in savagery since they were propped up by TARP. The reputation of AIG has been burned at the stake like they used to burn witches in old England, by the very people who said it was too big to fail. This is very sick stuff. Do you think.. right now... that the people who owned and operated AIG are now wishing they had gone through chapter 11?  I think they definitely would have been far, far better off and I think they all know it.  I think there's a real question mark on the Obama administration now as to whether Obama et-al actually knows what they are doing or even cares what happens in the markets. Yes, we have to wonder. Does the behavior and approach of this administration really show that they have any concern about the market? Looked at realistically, the answer is no. The goal of the administration seems to be obtaining and holding the power to micromanage the country's economy regardless of who it crushes in the process so that IT can decide what is fair and who the winners and losers in our society should be.  It is a totalitarian approach to central planning that has got to be making quite a few Obama voters scratch thier heads as they ask themselves, is this really what we voted for?

CRAWLING OUT OF THE DARKNESS....

We are not amused Mr. President, Ms. Pelosi, Mr. Reid and Mr. Frank.  All the vitriol and hatered you are spewing at the AIG Corporation is not going to distract us from the fact that you have just spent this country into bankruptcy for the foreseeable future and accomplished nothing in the process. Your hypocritical ranting and raving at "executives" and bonuses is not going to make us forget about your socialist agenda to seize control of the healthcare industry, the banking industry, to force economically unsound environmental policies on businesses that will raise costs for all Americans, your rollback of laws designed to keep us safe from terrorism, and your irresponsible continuation of the banking regulations that required a percentage of loans to be granted to those who could not afford them.

Obama has , up to very recently, been ripping down the economy and saying that government is "the only one" that can fix it. He didn't actually disown that statement yet, that only government can fix it...  ( though he should reverse that idea )... but, trying to suddenly put a positive spin on the economy makes him come off as either hypocritical or a bit suspicious. When a politician "says" one thing and "acts" in the opposite manner, we have a leader who does not believe in his own words, and that is not a good thing.  Obama needs to back up his statement about people staying positive about the economy by showing that "he" is positive about the economy by stopping all government bailouts and letting the market go through natural corrections based on capitalism, and simply and plainly remove barriers to freedom by cutting taxes across the board and letting people keep more of thier own money and thus boost consumption to new heights. If he did that, I would be cheering him on. but he's not doing that. We know he won't do that, because he doesn't really believe in a free market system and wants to control the economic outcome of everyone's lives so that he, in his own mind, can play the hero , can play the savior of the country and institute the sort of socialist ideas he deeply believes in.  Recessions are cyclical and it will turn around regardless of Obama's and Pelosi's and Reid's hideous spending and ... , when it does eventually turn around Obama and his cohorts will lie about it by saying it was his stimulus package that caused the economy to rebound when in fact the so-called stimulus probably will be the cause of a "delay" in the economy rebounding.

PELOSI'S ASTOUNDING IGNORANCE

Last thursday Speaker Of The House Nancy Pelosi issued a public verbal warning to General Petraeus, the top military commander in Iraq whose handling of the recent surge of US military action in Iraq played a key role in turning the tide and forcing embedded terrorists to flee the province. She basically warned him not to give congress any good news when he shows up to deliver his report on the recent outbreak of violence in Basra. She said, “We have to know the real ground truths of what is happening there, not put a shine on events because of a resolution that looks less violent when in fact it has been dictated by al-Sadr, who can grant or withhold that call for violence,”

Obviously Speaker Pelosi has already decided for herself what the report should be, and what the circumstances were regarding the violence.  So why bother with a report from the General?  This is shameful of her. Her comments were a demagogue's spew of pompous arrogance and toxic ignorance.  Madam Speaker..., you are not Commander In Chief of the military, much as you attempt to pretend that you are.  Not only has your own term in congress produced "nothing" of any substance, not only have you failed time-and-time-again to bring stability and unification to your own political party, not only have you failed to deliver on your promise of  "Earmark" ( political pork )reform and instead stood silently as it overflowed, but you have denigrated the men and women of the military with your comments against the war on terror.  Yet you slip away to clandestine visits with terrorist enablers like Basher Assad in Syria to extend him a hand of friendship, while stabbing your own country's military efforts in the back.  In my opinion your behavior makes you a traitor Ms. Pelosi, and in my opinion the worst Speaker Of the House in the history of our country.  That is your legacy. While General Petraeus will be remembered as a hero and a great leader of military successes.  Perhaps you should consider that, before attempting to tell the General that you will not accept his report unless it lives up to your own ignorant standards.
