MCCAIN VS. OBAMA - WILL A DEBATE MATTER?

John McCain served his country well, fought for his country above and beyond what most could do, and still serves today in the capacity of a politician. Barack Obama associates with a man who openly admits he wanted to bomb our country. Obama peformed some vaguely defined "community organizing" in Chicago, and now serves currently in the Senate. Of course, that just scratches the surface. If you know the stories in depth of both these gentlemen, it seems impossible that there could be any doubt who is better prepared, more dedicated to the service of the country, and ... since this is my blog and I can say mostly whatever I think.... who is more Patriotic.  I don't know Obama personally, so I'm only refering in this manner to his public career.  He may be a great guy when he's off the clock. Frankly that doesn't matter in this case. And frankly I don't care how Obama or McCain perform in this debate. Obama could do hand stands and recite the constitution and all it's articles backwards and forwards, it won't make him a better candidate in my opinion.

THE PROBLEM WITH PRESIDENT BUSH - WE OWN THIS ECONOMY - THE GOVERNMENT DOES NOT

President Bush is a great man, and in the past has been a great leader for this nation in times of national crisis, such as the terror attacks on 9/11/2001.  President Bush loves this country and the people. When he took the oval office from Clinton I personally breathed a sigh of relief that we had integrity restored to the Presidency. For me to criticize President Bush , my opposition must be truly so strident that I can find no common ground with his stated policy. So it is... I have a profound practical and ideological disagreement with President Bush's approach to the resolution of some economic strife that has been causing some very large banks and finance companies to fall, or at least teeter on the brink. My world view is one of a Conservative approach to fiscal and social matters. When President Bush holds a conference in front of a window on the world and states that we are on the brink of disaster I have no doubt that he believes it. But when he tells us.. the people of the United States, that the disaster is the failure of banks that have made ( or been forced by bad regulations to make...) bad loan decisions..  and that there is no time to wait, debate, argue or discuss any other approach to fixing this problem excepting the direct infusion of 700+ billion dollars of this country's taxpayer money into a machine to be operated by one man, Secretary of the Treasury, to buy up bad/defaulted/foreclosed loans from private companies... I have to put my foot down on the brake. There is something intuitively wrong with that single-minded narrowly focused view of a fix. Conservatism demands a pull back and re-examination of this problem. An attempt has been made to frighten the nation into a rash, uncertain and ( in many people's opinion..) ill-advised move to trust the federal government to fix an economic fallout that as yet.... has not been "proven" to be without optional approaches, and has not been proven to be the end of the United States economy, and has not been proven to be beyond free market methods of correction. Everyone in this country is overtaxed. That includes those making over, and under, $250,000 a year. Congress can only do one thing, appropriate and spend money.  How much of it they spend, is up to you and me. That's right. We are not powerless mimes in a play being hosted by the federal government. Quite the opposite.  They don't go to Capitol Hill unless we give them permission. That's why our Senators and Representatives get very nervous when their phone lines start ringing off the hook with irate voters calling them, and thier email systems break down under a tidal wave of angry constituents making thier presence felt. They can go to DC and play with our tax money , but when we start putting the heat on them , reminding them that this is not a game..., it's a very sobering moment for them. That's one of the reasons, right now, that the proposed 700+ billion dollar bailout machine has stalled. Because "we" are mad as hell, and we're not going to let them get away with another government tax-funded boondoggle. The citizens of our country are ANGRY. WE are putting the squeeze on this deal by rattling the cages of our local representatives and letting them know we don't like this at all. The best alternative, in my opinion, is a complete elimination of the capital gains tax.  When our government no longer punishes you for making investment profits, investments will sky rocket like never before. Cut the payroll tax in half, and you will see new jobs grow like never before. There are so many positive, uplifting ways to move this economy without creating a new 700 billion dollar bureaucracy, and they all take the form of LESS GOVERNMENT involvement.

WHERE WE STAND - AN ODE TO THE CANDIDATES

Once again I venture into the brooding mysts of my inner muse and craft a poetic ode to the candidates. Here then is my tribute to the Presidential campaign season.  I call it....,

WHERE WE STAND

Once, upon a campaign season
As I sorted lies from reason
What was true and what was treason
In the crisp September air,

As I sat here watching wearily
Savage advertisements cheerily
Cast from people who Imperially
Deigned to call them fair,

I heard a sound from ages past
Tapping on the frosted glass
That stared out on a darkened pass
The moon could scarcely light,

In a clearing there I saw
A pair of ghostly figures thaw
From out the icy darkened maw
Of the deeply wooded night.

Though the glass was wet with rain,
I saw the frame of John McCain
Standing there despite the pain
From injuries long past,

Not looking at me, nor away,
He gazed into the molten fray
Of an eerie evening shadow-play
That the rising mist had cast,

Unfolding like a savage dream
Within that cloud of forest steam
I saw a throng compelled to scream
As buildings burst and fall,

Fire burns, explosions roar,
People drop to rise no more
No difference whether rich or poor,
Terror takes them all.

John McCain then reached his hand
Into that brutal vision and
Dispelled that fog from where it spanned,
"Not on my watch!" he said.

The second figure there was framed
In the misty light and dappled rain
Barack Obama stood unchained
From the shackles of the past,

He too observed a drama twist
By the flickering of a will-o'-wisp
Where light and shadow might be missed
By other untrained eyes,

A divided road eclipsed the night,
One side black and one side white,
Lit by a flame of a hateful light
On a grimly burning cross,

The price that generations paid,
Waiting for that promise made
That here, despite a person's shade
You'll have an equal chance.

Both men bring perspective
On America's objective
Despite the rank invective
And a sharp opposing stance,

Back within my solemn room
In the failing light
of the evening gloom
I came to a conclusion soon
That only this compels,

From the first intent of freedom
The scope has been more grand
Than any single eye had seen
Or any dream had planned,
Whoever holds this country's reins
Can find a steady hand
By remembering the price we paid
For the ground on which we stand.

THOSE WHO WOULD BE EMPERORS- DON'T UNDER ESTIMATE THE PEOPLE OF THE COUNTRY

Hey,...Secretary Paulson, Mr. President, and all you pundits and critics out there who are wringing your hands and declaring that this is the END OF DAYS for the US economy and so we need to have the 700+ billion dollar debacle created to bail out the big financial players on Wall Street.   One thing to keep in mind, don't under estimate "us" , the people who really make this country work. Don't under estimate the power of the constituency out here screaming at thier senators, thier representatives, "don't you dare do this!".  This is can be seen in one sense as a basic, back pocket issue that is not above the understanding of the masses.   Regular working class citizens look at this and see giant corporations possibly getting massive bailouts, while individuals who had to pay into that gargantuan pool of tax money are not getting bailed out of thier own personal financial problems at home. There is a visible disparity in this debate that is not lost on the average consumer. Talk of massive infusions of tax money to save companies from thier own bad business practices is something that festers in the public mind. Why should the individual at home, have to take responsibility for thier own bad financial decisions, but the big banks and insurance companies get off the hook? And of course, gall of Paulson and , sadly, of our sitting President in this matter, to insist that this is not a matter that can wait for open debate and to demand that our tax money go to this boondoggle this week to be overseen by one man like an Emperor on a golden throne, is simply outrageous.  This is a clear imbalance, and definitely not the American way. If you believe, as our founding fathers did, that life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness are moral issues, then you have to believe that tax is a moral issue as well since the level of taxation is a measure of the oppressive burden working against those founding moral principles. Mr. President, ladies and gentlemen of our congress, if you want to be on the side of  "the people" , send that 700+ billion back to the public in the form of an income tax rebate for individuals and small businesses all across the country. Then "We The People" will decide whether to bail out the banks by continuing to do business with them or not.

STAND UP LIKE A KNIGHT - OR RUN WITH THE DOGS

The government has no right to grant any sort of bailout to private enterprise, let alone this 700 billion dollar boondoggle that is about to be approved. This spells disaster for the US economy. This will be the worst burden on US taxpayers since the nightmare of social security. This is a seminal moment for Senator McCain.  He has a chance , right now, to PROVE that he is a REFORMER. "Senator McCain, please REFUSE to put your name to any such monstrosity of a bailout". Senator McCain has been shouting from the rooftops... REFORM, REFORM, REFORM, I'M A REFORMER...We WILL REFORM WASHINGTON..., okay Senator... PROVE IT, RIGHT NOW! Stand on the side of Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, and the other founding fathers of our country who would draw their swords before they would allow a such betrayal of the public trust as this 700 billion dollar nightmare. Stand on the side of the People... WE THE PEOPLE... the people as expressed by the preamble of the Constitution. You served your country nobly as a warrior sir, serve your country nobly now as a warrior among the politicians who represent business as usual. "Senator McCain, if you put your name to any legislation that approves of this burden on the taxpayer, then you sir are no reformer. You will be the same hypocritical, thieving jackal that sets himself up as a liege lord in DC and looks at the public tax money as a king looks at his personal treasure room. You know Senator, that we will never recover this money. Just like we never recover any such money the government dumps into the private sector to buy votes in an election cycle. Don't try to sell us on the same old lies that this is only temporary. NOTHING government sets up a bureaucracy for is temporary, and you KNOW it. If you sign anything approving this monstrosity, then DON'T YOU DARE... DON'T YOU DARE CALL YOURSELF A REFORMER!. You tout your record on earmarks..., big deal. If you sign on to this horror show you won't be able to make up for it by trimming earmarks from legislation sir. If you want to bail out the people being hurt in this economy then send that 700 billion dollars back to the people of the country who you took it from rather than setting up more debt and removing the responsibility from private businesses to manage thier resources wisely. if you want to REFORM something reform the role of the Treasurer who has far too much power.  Now is the time Senator McCain.  Do you stand up against politics as usual as a knight in shining armor, or do you get down on your hands and knees and run with the dogs?

JOE BIDEN FLUBS HIS WAY THROUGH LIFE . WE DON'T NEED HIM ONE HEARTBEAT AWAY FROM BEING PRESIDENT

Joe Biden is a master of verbal flubs. I think we need to nickname him Flubber. If you remember, there was an old television series called Flipper about a dolphin who somehow could communicate using those static squeeky noises that Dolphins typically make, and be understood by the boys who befriended him. Flipper seemed to have a better grasp of communication skills than poor old Joe Biden does. Since I have more respect for Flipper's skills than I do for Joe's, I will refer to Joe as Flubber, the verbally challenged human version of Flipper. Let's review some of Flubber's famous verbal flubs.

* "You got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy.”

The "FIRST"? Wow...

* “You cannot go to a 7/11 or a Dunkin’ Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent.”

Way to go Joe... insult yet another constituency.

* To State Senator Chuck Graham, Joe implored ...: “Chuck, stand up, let the people see you.”

Hey Joe.., did you or your staff happen to notice that Chuck is in a wheelchair? Sheesh!

* "Hillary Clinton is as qualified or more qualified than I am to be vice president of the United States of America", "Quite frankly it might have been a better pick than me"

Hey Joe... we can agree on something! Obama made a terrible pick and showed lack of judgement.

* "We want to take money ...."

Yes Joe... we know.

*.... "and put it back in the pocket of middle-class people."

What about "poor" people Joe? Oh, that's right. You took care of that already. You donated $995 to charity ( $400 of that was an unspecified "non-cash" gift, reducing the real cash donation to $595 )... out of your $360,000.00 income last year. How about this Joe, give up your salary as a politician for the coming year and give it to the middle class instead. Then you don't have to steal it in the form of higher taxes from other people so that you can play a phony santa claus trying to buy votes with liberal income redistribution schemes.

* ...( continuing in his statement about taking money ( through higher taxes) and putting it in the pocket of the middle-class , Joe said..) “It’s time to be patriotic … time to jump in, time to be part of the deal, time to help get America out of the rut.”

Thanks Joe. Thanks for helping us all understand what the word "patriotic" means. Paying more taxes. I don't suppose being patriotic would be something like supporting the troop surge, which you declared a "failure". I don't suppose it would be anything like supporting General Petraeus to whom exactly 1 year ago you demanded to end the surge and bring the troops home declaring you had no reason to believe the violence would end in Iraq despite General Petraeus telling you that his commanders see improvement in security and reductions in violence. Who was it, Joe, that was the lone voice on your foreign relations committee who warned that it would be rash to jump to conclusions and force an end to the war? That's right... it was Senator John McCain. Guess what Joe? He was right, you were wrong. You flubbed it again Joe.

So , Flubber Biden, flubbing his way through his Senate career with his ridiculous comments and inept analysis, is now the VP candidate? Good Lord! If Obama wins, Flubber is only one heartbeat away from the Presidency! We simply can't allow Flubber Biden to flub-up the country too! What a scary thought!

HOLD EVERYTHING - THE GOVERNMENT IS ABOUT TO KICK YOU IN THE GROIN

To our Representatives and Senators, our Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, our President, and to all US citizens, please... step back and take a breath, stay calm, don't panic. Let's not make a bad situation worse. Take a look at what happened on wall street overnight. News, not actual passage of legislation, but the news that the government intends to form a new 400 billion dollar regulatory agency to oversee bad debt and buy up that bad debt and bad loans. Markets have rallied, the DOW is up, wall street is celebrating, and nothing has actually happened yet to build this monstrosity of a new bureaucracy that will mortgage the future of our country's children. What does it tell you, when markets rally only on news..., it means that the markets are effected by something as simple as a few ideas being thrown around in DC. This also means that markets can be effected by leaders harping on bad news and depressing investors and consumers. We don't need this 400 billion dollar gorilla sitting on the backs of the public. Secretary Paulson, men and women of the Legislature, back off... sit down..., let this rally that has happened on the news of a monster bailout boost the confidence of the public and the world markets, and let the idea of a new government entity to buy bad loans, die a quiet death. We don't need it. If you want to do something noble , go bailout Galveston TX , where lives have been horribly destroyed by Hurricane IKE. We need to be far more afraid of what the government will do to our economy than what will happen from the market's credit fallout. This is OUR government and we need to remind those legislators that they are not kings and queens who can proclaim from on high that they will now become rulers our financial industries by using our own tax money against us. If you are a bank and you grant a large loan to a business, or an individual, and then you find that the business failed or the individual never had the ability to repay it, you don’t have to sweat. If this new government entity is created, the government will knock on your bank door, buy that bad loan off your books, and as a bank owner you can go merrily down the road making more bad loans knowing that the US government will be using tax money to keep you solvent no matter what bad loan decisions you make. It's party time for bank owners everywhere.  For the rest of us it's time to watch more and more our hard earned money fly off to the pockets of these banks making those bad decisions. Do you have any better use for that money?  I know I do.

HACKERS - BOILS THAT SWELL WITH DISEASE

I don't know how many people actually read my little posts I put up in my blog here, but I feel obliged to make mention of this recent report of scummy criminals hacking into Governor Sarah Palin's personal yahoo e-mail account.  These people must be idiots, because this was certainly an insane thing to do if they were hoping to garner public disdain for Sarah Palin by revealing private thoughts or personal comments etc..., or perhaps the attempt was to generate a circus like atmosphere of prying crowds hoping to drag her down into a malaise of grubby probing fingers clawing like animals for a chance to see an e-mailed picture of Trig.  These criminal hackers are pus-filled boils on the back end of society appealing to the lowest common denominator of gazers of  paparazzi photos and garbage digging jackals. The only effect this will have is to raise the wrath of her supporters against these hackers, and generate more support and probably some sympathy as well..., than ever before. I can garantee that Sarah's supporters by choice will not be looking at any of these illegally obtained e-mails because we are not members of the lice infested circles these criminal hackers run in. I hope the fullest measure of the law is brought to bear upon these morally vapid wretches.

ATTACKING THE UNITED STATES ECONOMY

We don't need a President micro-managing the financial industries of the country. Any presidential candidate who ran on the basis of tampering with the operations of private financial institutions and money markets would not get my vote. If AIG can not rescue itself, let the company answer to its customers for its bad decisions and crash if it must. Will people suffer? Some probably will, there are alot of personal assets in big banking institutions, although some are covered by deposit insurance. Government must not take risk away from investment by playing the role of daddy to a wayward child who misspent its money. If you take risk away from normally risky investments you reduce the incentive to manage assests carefully.  Also the fundamentals of our economy are not ruled by three of four banks on wall street.  John McCain was exactly right. The country will continue to function, we will continue to prosper as a country in the big picture of things, and markets will correct themselves. He is smart not to rip the US economy because as a top contender for President everyone around the world is listening to what McCain says. If they think he will be President, and if he is mouthing that the economy sucks in the US he will turn international investors off like a light switch.  The President , as a leader, should be reassuring the country and the world that the US markets are sound and solid investments, not scaring people out of thier wits. What will also debilitate the economy in a widespread form is Obama's plan for raising taxes, especially on capital gains. If you want boost economic activity , lower taxes on all businesses and families to provide more capital and disposable income to generate greater commerce and investment.

Secondly, I wish McCain would stop using Sarah Palin to deliver his liberalized message on increasing regulations on CEO's and big Oil and oversight on private banks and investment firms, and instead let her be the Conservative voice on pushing for oil and natural gas exploration, cutting taxes and promoting Conservative values to our nations court systems. I don't think McCain realizes what Sarah's best asset to his campaign is and how to make the best use of her popularity.  He should not be sending Sarah Palin out to talk about increasing regulations and bureaucracies.

REPRESENTATIVE STEVE COHEN SLASHES AT SARAH PALIN ON THE HOUSE FLOOR

Whether you read the bible, or not, you probably know who Pontius Pilate was and are familiar with the name of Jesus. Those names have been referred to throughout our world's history since they appeared thousands of years ago. As most of us know, Pilate ultimately ordered the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Since most adults and perhaps even most children in this country are generally familiar with the biblical recounting of these events, what was it that inspired Democrat Representative Steve Cohen of Tennessee to believe he needed to refresh that knowledge at the national level? At the podium in the House of  Representatives in DC, Senator Cohen chose to state the following for the record, quoting...

"I submit to you, Mr. Speaker, that the parties have differences. But if you want change, you want the Democratic Party. Barack Obama was a community organizer like Jesus, who our minister prayed about. Pontius Pilate was a governor."

Was Representative Cohen giving a sermon? No. Was he trying to educate the masses about a historical event?  No. He was making a political statement in a clear, blatant, open attempt to compare Barack Obama whose claim to real world experience is as a "Community Organizer"  , to Jesus Christ.  So we are left to guess who he meant for us to think of when he said "Pontius Pilate was a governor".  Let's see. Could he mean Senator Biden?  I doubt it since he was making a statement in favor of the Democrat Party and Biden is Obama's VP. Could it be Senator McCain? No. McCain was never a Governor.  That leaves one candidate on the Republican ticket. Governor Sarah Palin. We all know that he was making a comparison of Sarah Palin to the man who ordered the execution of Jesus Christ. The revered Savior of her own religion, by the way. Representative Cohen is a deeply disturbed man. It requires a tremendous loathing, a deeply embedded hatred of Sarah Palin in his heart to make such a sinister reference. This man is not fit for office. To use the floor of the House Of Representatives to attack in a highly personal and savage manner Governor Palin's character, to suggest that Sarah Palin would in some way like Pontius Pilate be ready and willing to order the execution of the Son of God, whether you believe Jesus to be the Savior or not, displays Cohen's sickness of the mind.  Cohen is Jewish, and so am I.   I am ashamed , and embarrassed to call him a Jew. Judaism is a religion that does not abide using biblical rhetoric to make savage personal attacks on fellow citizens.  Quite the opposite. Cohen should perhaps remember the history of anti-Semitism Jews worldwide have experienced at various intervals.  In fact, during Representative Cohen's own run for office in Tennessee this year, he experienced religious slander against himself in the form of anti-Semitic flyers being distributed with his name on them. The Washington Post has a report on that at the following link; http://blog.washingtonpost.com/sleuth/2008/02/jewish_rep_cohen_battles_antis.html

WHY DO WE WANT MCCAIN/PALIN TO WIN?

I think one reason among many reasons Republican Conservatives are energized as a group over Sarah Palin is that there is a palpable weariness of elected Republicans trying to out-liberal the liberals. The Republican base is fed up with the Republican party officials being worried about not being liked by the NY times, or CNN, or NBC, and always trying to court those biased media outlets by "modifying" thier tone. Frankly, though I love President Bush and respect him immensely, his "new tone" ideas really twisted the arms of Republicans to be more compromising with Democrats, but did nothing to make Democrats more compromising with Republicans. We see in Sarah Palin someone who is tough and confident that her values are right for her life and her family and wouldn't ask others to compromise their own personal values either for the sake of appearing cooperative at the expense of selling your soul. We see someone who knows the potential for people to be great without government making it happen for them. And perhaps most importantly, she is a leader who is a role model for all children of both genders that achievement and accomplishment are there for the making and taking if you have the drive. You don't need to be from an ivy league school, a law professor, an elite club member of the DC illuminati, you can be Sarah Palin , a basketball captain, a PTA member, have a full family life, and still reach for the stars. She restores confidence in the American idea that one ordinary person can make an exceptional difference, and that anyone can be great.

DON'T JUST STAND THERE - SUICIDAL REPORTERS

Hurricane IKE is tearing up Texas. With winds around 110 miles per hour through Galveston, Houston, Pasadena...etc..  almost 3 million people are without power. Texas Governor Rick Perry warned residents about 48 hours before it hit that they should evacuate, in fact telling people that it would be certain death to remain in it's path.  It's estimated that about 140 thousand people did not heed that warning , though it's unsure why. We know what a hurricane is, of course. We know from past experience or at least photos or video, what a hurricane can do.  We don't want anyone trapped, lost, hurt or killed. News of people trapped by a hurricane is devastating. I was watching Fox Cable News last night, and during a broadcast of headlines, there was a cut away to Galveston as hurricane IKE was tearing it up. Geraldo Rivera was standing there with rain and surf lifted by the wind litterally pouring over him, giving us his first hand impressions of what it's like to stand in a hurricane. Now, don't get me wrong here.  It takes guts to willingly do that, and sure... it makes for great video imagery. But..., all I could think of is .... "GET OUT OF THERE YOU IDIOT!". Do we really need to have camera crews and reporters risking thier lives by standing in a hurricane to tell us... "hey look...I'm in a hurricane... this is a hurricane".  The answer is a resounding NO, we don't. I turned it off immediately because I felt like a gawker  watching a man possibly commit suicide. I really wish news agencies would stop the practice of sending, or allowing thier reporters to do this.

THE TRUTH - LIBERAL WOMEN ARE JEALOUS OF SARAH PALIN

The more I ponder the vitriol and venom that liberal women are spewing like acid  at Sarah Palin, the more I have boiled it down to something less complicated than ideology from them. Sarah Palin is what they wish they could be. These liberal ladies want to have the cheers and throngs of full throated support that Sarah has, and they hate the fact that Sarah is an attractive Republican woman. She's strong, confident, Conservative, happy with her life, beautiful and admired by millions. The liberal female pundits, radical feminists and hollywood kooks who have cultivated thier narrow political audiences are bewildered and jealous over this. Sure there's some ideology mixed in, but I think it's used more as a cover for the seething jealousy of her popularity. To these liberal ladies, "they" are supposed to be the pinnacle of popularity. They have prostituted themsleves to the ideology of a fringe viewpoint , and as a result they get "in" to the elite gatherings of social snobbery that represent that radical view of the country. But , do they really believe the lunacy of the liberalism they spew, or are they towing the line so that they can keep that "in" crowd venue with the mopy miserable depressed liberals who wring thier hands at the unfairness of life, financial success, and carbon-dioxide? I think they secretly wish they could "be" Sarah Palin, because Sarah has not had to go "phony" and be something that "others" want her to be in order to "fit in" with the super egos of radical beligerants. She's not one of them. Sarah doesn't care to rub shoulders with the illuminati of liberal inner circles.  It doesn't make sense to the liberal mindset. In thier world view there are not supposed to be "normal" people in this country.  Or, at least the "normal" people are supposed to be the "fringe" nutcases not the rallying point of the great majority. But the rest of us know why Sarah is popular. Precisely because she represents the core values we cherish most.

WE DON'T NEED KING OBAMA'S IRON THUMB - WE NEED SARAH'S FAITH AND SPIRIT

It's easier to shout at authority when you're not in charge. When you don't have the responsibility of national leadership, you don't have worry about nation wide repercussions. Thursday night Senator McCain and Senator Obama attended a forum on the subject of National Service. It brought back to mind comments made by Senator Obama in July of this year when he criticized President Bush for "merely" telling people that it's important to resume travel and consumer activity after the terrorist strike on 9/11/2001.   Here's what Obama said about President Bush's so-called "failure" to call the nation to duty in the days after 9/11/2001,

"We were ready to step into the strong current of history and to answer a new call for our country. But the call never came"

"Instead of a call to service, we were asked to shop,"

Senator Obama thinks the President should have asked for people to commit themselves to public national service. Okay, fine. Senator Obama is entitled to his opinion. Here's my opinion.  George W. Bush is a dedicated leader, a decent human being, and an absolute gentleman, a man who has worked tirelessly at keeping the country safe, and has genuine faith in the people of the United States.  Listen up Senator Obama. President Bush was exactly right by first and foremost trying to ease the nation's concern about travel and commerce and conducting normal every day business after the terroist attacks.  It's this country's normal every day folks conducting business, working, traveling, shopping that makes the country function and is the source of our strength and stability. The President did not "need" to call people to national service , Senator, because he trusted the people of our fine country to see that need for themselves, and they did.  The call to national service, Senator Obama, was the calling card left by the terrorists. The President does not need to instruct citizens on what thier moral compunction should be. Obama shows a lack of faith in the citizens of the country to see and respond to a need for service. His remarks show that he believes people must be "told what to do and when to do it. That's not leadership in a Democracy, its monarchy in a top down micromanagement of people's lives. We don't need any of that.

Also, we saw Governor Sarah Palin being interrogated by Charlie Gibson last night. No matter how may times I have seen Gibson in the past he always comes across as a snotty pompous asss. He's part of the creeping rot infecting network news and I would like to have seen Sarah interview with a network that has higer ratings and wider audience such as Fox News Channel. Regardless, she did an outstanding job, did not heistate to give clear sharp answers to questions intended to test her knowledge of foreign issues and her personal resolve to be Vice President.  She presented herself well and did the people of Alaska proud and continues to win the hearts of people all across the country. She commits to a common sense practical approach to governance, and by the example of her life and her family she speaks volumes to citizens all across the country. Sarah is the kind of person you cheer for naturally because she's part of the real American experience. There's nothing contrived or phony about her. We love it when she gives that great smile of hers to the throngs of people who come to encourage her and stand with her because it's a reflection of the warmth and spirit of a common desire to feel good about our country. Sarah does that. She makes us feel good about the United States, and proud to share the same spirit and faith in the country that she has.

THE PLASTIC GODS OF NEWS ONLY IMPRESS THEMSELVES

Okay. So here we are.., Governor Sarah Palin will sit for an interview conducted by Charles Gibson.  It's certainly nothing unusual that a politician interviews with a news anchor.  Except for this one. What's so different?  I heard 7 different news media analysts say that this will make or break Sarah Palin. Isn't that special? Doesn't it give you a comfortable trusting feeling about these loose-jawed self-adoring network asses who where bred on pop culture icons that tumble out of American Idol and MTV's "reality" shows?  It doesn't ? Well, me neither. I have some "news" for you,  you styrofoam members of the press..., so-called ( ha-ha) "reporters"... you mirror gazing Divas of narcissism... you can't "break" what you didn't "make". Governor Palin is not a "news" phenomenon. Her appeal is so far beyond anything that the news media understands that they are actually puzzled at her popularity. They "don't" get it, and they "won't" get it, because they "can't" get it.  They don't know "us". They don't know "normal" people and what motivates us to admire someone who has leadership qualities that come from the basic fundamental core values of regular everyday folks. Sarah Palin is one of us. We don't "need" the media gods to introduce her to us. We don't "need" Charles Gibson to question her in order for us to know we have a person in Sarah Palin who understands where are, and what we want.  Sarah will give them thier precious interviews, but they are only fooling themselves if they think they will control her future. Sarah is going to DC as the next VP.  You rabid hyenas of the press can snap at her heels all the way to Washington if you want... but when she gets there the door will close in your faces and your fangs will have nothing to sink into and you will skulk back to your little dens of dubious media still puzzled over why she's so popular and why your ratings are running out like sand through a screen.
